Intergenerational Programming at V!VA Mississauga
V!VA Mississauga’s on-site children’s daycare benefits local families and is a wonderful foundation for V!VA’s intergenerational programs, bringing children and older adults together. These programs foster respect and understanding between youth and older adults and give participants a chance to engage in meaningful and fun activities.

This past month we held an Easter Egg hunt as well as craft activities with the Daycare Tots. Community Members helped the kids search the V!VA Community for Easter eggs, filling the Community with fun and laughter.

Attention pet lovers!
Pets are some of our best friends, and they are absolutely welcome at V!VA Mississauga. So far, our V!VA pets include dogs, cats and even a talking parrot! In our commitment to ensure that we cover all our Community Members' needs, we even have a dog wash station to rinse off muddy paws after a nice walk outside! (pictured below)

Please speak with your V!VA Community Relations Manager or Community Director about the policies we’ve put in place to ensure that both our pets and Community Members are safe.

Valentine's Day comes early to V!VA Mississauga
Dorothy Whitelaw, mother of three, grandmother of six and great-grandmother of three is in love.

Dorothy moved to V!VA Mississauga soon after it opened in 2011 from her home in Montreal, QC to be closer to her family. Her family will be growing in ways she hadn’t expected. On Dorothy’s 81st birthday, she was presented with an engagement ring from fellow Community Member Dinny Madill. The couple will be getting married in March.

“I wasn’t looking for a relationship. I just enjoyed Dinny’s company and our time together,” Dorothy candidly shares.

Smiling ear to ear, Dinny’s take on the budding relationship is a bit different. “The moment I saw her, I thought to myself, ‘What a classy lady!’ and ever since then, it has been all about Dorothy.”

When asked how love has been different this time around, Dorothy says, “It isn’t teenage love, where we thought we knew everything. Our feet are more firmly rooted in the ground this time, though we feel like teenagers in love! I am giddy all the time.”

Initially, Dorothy was somewhat hesitant to share the news with her daughter Kathie, mainly because she felt ‘foolish’.

“Who gets married at our age?” Dorothy asks as she looks at Dinny and reaches for his hand. “But my daughter was so happy for us, as were all our friends and the wonderful Team Members at V!VA. They made us feel so loved and valued.”

Dorothy is now dress shopping with her daughter and preparing for their wedding in March. Upon hearing the news, her daughter had said, “Mom, it is about time you had some happiness.”

When asked if they have any pearls of wisdom to share, Dinny pulling Dorothy closer says, “Never stop loving and live life to the fullest.”

V!VA Workout: Extended Arm Raises
One great exercise routine we use in our V!VAfit program is Extended Arm Raises with resistance bands. This exercise helps build muscle and endurance in your arms, which is helpful for picking up grandchildren or delivering hugs.

Stand on the resistance band with both feet (sitting or standing). Place your arms at your side arms extended, raise your arms up and out, lower your arms slowly and repeat 8 to 15 times.

If you don't have a resistance band, you can also use two full soup cans from your pantry! You can use bigger and heavier cans as you grow stronger.

Just minutes from the historic charm of Streetsville, V!VA Mississauga is a brand new retirement residence nestled in scenic Churchill Meadows.
