A Year of Giving at V!VA Pickering
Published on January 4, 2018
Throughout 2017, Community Members at V!VA Pickering Retirement Community engaged in meaningful initiatives to give back to the community-at-large and those in need. Our Year Of Giving began in Spring, when Community Members partnered with Glengrove Public School to clean up the neighbourhood for Earth Day. Following this, V!VA Pickering participated in the 33rd Annual Cardiac Health Walk of Life. From summer to autumn, the Community organized several fundraising campaigns for organizations including the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada, and Hurricane Harvey relief efforts. V!VA Pickering’s Holiday Bazaar generated over $1,400 for a family in need, as well as for Horizon House, a shelter for abused women and children. The giving didn’t end with the donation: Community Members continue to bake delicious treats for the shelter’s residents. Also this holiday season, V!VA Pickering collected a big box of toys and knitted items for CTV’s Toy Mountain Drive in support of the Salvation Army, and donating knitted items crafted by our Community Members, to local shelters and hospitals. V!VA Pickering also facilitated ongoing charitable initiatives such as the Milk Mat Team, comprised of dedicated Community Members creating several milk-bag sleeping mats throughout the year for those in need. As we begin 2018, we would like to thank all Community Members, Team Members, and volunteers for promoting positive change within V!VA Pickering and the community-at-large including a special thanks to the aforementioned Milk Mat Team, and everyone who actively contributed to this year’s Holiday Bazaar.
